Description

Dykanka village is located 25 km from Poltava. The origin of the name of the village is associated with the fact that in ancient times this area was surrounded by dense wild forests. For the first time in the documents the village is mentioned in 1658. Since the XVII century - to the beginning XX century - family nest of Kochubeys - representatives of the Ukrainian Cossack officers, owners of large land estates in Ukraine, in particular, in the former Poltava province.

Age-old "Kochubeivski" oaks, shrouded in history and poetry, the Triumphal Arch at the entrance to the former Kochubeis' estate, which was once one of the largest manor-palace classicist complexes in Poltava, Lilac Grove - a botanical monument of nature, two churches: white stone Nicolas (1794) and baroque Trinity (1780) - make an unforgettable impression on discerning travelers.

 Dykanka's  the state historical and local lore museum named after D.M. Garmash, whose funds number more than 8,000 exhibits, is the most interesting in Poltava region.

Centuries have passed since Dykanka, thanks to the light pen of Mykola Gogol, became known throughout the world. However, even today it has not lost the charm of a picturesque provincial town, which is still famous for its patriarchy and respect for the antiquity.
