The Church of the Ascension is a unique monument of monumental masonry architecture of the XVIII century, belongs to the second (late) stage of development of architecture of the Ukrainian revival. This is the only example of a classic towerless tetraconch in Poltava region.
The church is built of brick and has two tiers. Planning is cross-shaped. It has one dome with a cross. The windows are wooden, rectangular on the ground floor, and arched on the second floor. The roof is metal, covered with paint. The facade is painted white. The central bath, once covered by a hemispherical vault with a tiered top, with the help of triangular spherical sails rests on the slightly pointed spring arches that extend from the massive pylons to the places where the exedra adjoins. The exedra have hemispherical vaults, the planes of the walls are dissected by paired pilasters, which were completed by an unfastened cornice. The monument is very damaged: collapsed vaults, ragged plaster, broken yard and window slopes, destroyed decor elements, damaged brickwork.
According to some sources, Motrya Kochubeyevna, the daughter of Judge General Vasyl Kochubey and the beloved Hetman Ivan Mazepa, is buried in the fence of the Church of the Ascension. It was there that the Cossack army reserve was located around the Mazepa tent during the Battle of Poltava.
Inside the temple, the walls are covered with paintings on biblical themes, a wooden iconostasis.
