Mykola Sklifosovskyi is a well-known physician of the second half of the 19th century, a scientist and professor. Student and follower of the famous Mykola Pyrohov.
For the last four years he has lived in his Poltava estate "Vidrada". Several apoplexy strokes interrupted the activities of the famous surgeon. Mykola died on November 30, 1904. He was buried in the cemetery, which was later demolished, leaving only the grave of Mykola Sklifosovskyi and his son Volodymyr.
On a marble slab in Latin and Russian it is written: "Shining on others, I burn myself".
In 1966, during the international forum of surgeons in Poltava, a park was laid near the grave.
On October 31, 2024, at the initiative of the NGO "Poltava Surgeons Association", a memorial sign to the surgeon's younger son, Vadym, was installed near the graves of Mykola Sklyfosovskyi and his eldest son Volodymyr.
