Traditionally, on the September weekend, Poltava museums participate in the European Heritage Days. Every year, the cultural and educational project has a thematic orientation, in 2023 - "Living Heritage". The purpose of which is to draw attention to the disappearing intangible heritage, research, popularization and protection of the common cultural heritage. As a form of human expression, Living Heritage is the stories of people and places through time, passing on to posterity pieces of their special history and unique culture.
Guests who came to the European Heritage Days in Poltava had the opportunity to learn about the history of the European traditions of the art of wood carving, to see the art of performing dance from of the 20th century, get acquainted with interesting and little-known traditions related to the daily life and military art of the Ukrainian Cossacks of the 17th - 18th centuries, get acquainted with the history of his native Poltava through ancient maps and in the context of today, hear the memories of V. Korolenko about his travels in European countries and much more.
European Heritage Days is a pan-European initiative officially launched by the Council of Europe in 1991. The project's goal is to draw public attention to the importance of cultural heritage and its role in the development of modern society. Poltava joined the project for the fifth time this year, and we are looking forward to new interesting events of the UES in September 2024.
