On the occasion of the Ukrainian Day of Local Historian, the Poltava Literary and Memorial Museum of I. Kotliarevskyi hosted a presentation of the book by the famous local historian Valentyn Sakun, "Poltava Trail of Olexandr Pol". The Day of the Local Historian in Ukraine has been celebrated since 2017 at the initiative of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine. On this day in 1925, the 1st Ukrainian Conference on Local History was held in Kharkiv, during which the Ukrainian Committee of Local History was created, which became the birth date of the Ukrainian local history movement. Local lore is the basis for the formation of self-identity based on love for one's native land, one's "small homeland", for its history, folk traditions and customs. There is no place more precious to a person than the place where he was born, the land on which he grew up. Local history is one of the links of museum work. One of the little-known pages of Poltava history was discovered by Valentyn Sakun in his book "Poltava Trail of Olexandr Pol". His local history research immerses us in Poltava of the 19th century. and tells about the years of study of Olexandr Pol, an outstanding entrepreneur, archaeologist, museum worker, in the first Poltava male gymnasium. The author reveals in detail the genealogy of this famous Cossack elder family, tells about Paul's teachers and classmates, investigates the influence of the years of study on the formation and development of the personality of the famous public figure.
The book will be of interest to everyone who is interested in the history of their native land, respects outstanding personalities who made an invaluable contribution to the development and prosperity of the land.
