On November 21, 2024, a mini-sculpture dedicated to the fallen soldier of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Hero of Ukraine Yulian Matviichuk was unveiled on the square near the Poltava Regional Academic Puppet Theater. The sculpture of an aerial reconnaissance beaver symbolizes Yulian's call sign "Beaver". The installation of the memorial sign was initiated by friends, comrades-in-arms and the wife of the fallen soldier. The author was Pavlo Rudakov.

Yulian Matviichuk was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity, in 2014-2015 he took part in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. He was twice elected to the Poltava City Council and headed the city branch of the all-Ukrainian association "Svoboda". Yulian Matviichuk is also a co-founder of the "Save Poltava" NGO. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, he has been a soldier of the 116th separate terrorist defense brigade. He served in the aerial reconnaissance group “Solovey” of the 144th battalion. He was wounded on May 15, 2023 near the village of Heorhiivka, Donetsk region. On May 20, the 33-year-old soldier died in a hospital in Dnipro. In July 2023, the soldier was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Poltava. On August 23, 2024, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a decree awarding Yulian Matviichuk the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Order of the Golden Star.
