In 2025, the Panas Myrnyi Literary and Memorial Museum in Poltava celebrates its 85th anniversary. This is not only an important date in the history of the museum, but also a landmark event for the entire cultural community of Poltava.

The museum, located in the house in Kobyshchany where the prominent Ukrainian writer Panas Myrnyi (real name: Panas Rudchenko) lived and worked for 17 years, was opened on 1 April 1940. The work on compiling the literary heritage of Panas Myrnyi was led by the writer's son Mykhailo Rudchenko, who was the first director of the museum for more than twenty years from 1940 to 1961. At that time, the museum was housed in only two rooms, with the family living in the rest of the house. Since then, the museum has become a centre for preserving and promoting the literary heritage of the author of ‘Do Oxen Roar When the Manger is Full?’, ‘Prostitutes’ and other important works of Ukrainian classics.

Over the years, the museum has repeatedly updated its exposition, introduced new forms of work and actively participated in cultural and educational events. It hosts literary evenings, thematic exhibitions, lectures and excursions that reveal the versatility of Panas Myrnyi and the importance of his creative heritage and social activities for the benefit of the Poltava community.

The Panas Myrnyi Literary and Memorial Museum in Poltava is the richest museum-estate in terms of the number of memorabilia among Ukrainian literary museums and is a historical monument of national importance. The celebration of its anniversary is a great opportunity to recall the museum's important mission of preserving, enhancing and popularising the national heritage. The museum team continues to work on expanding the expositions, attracting new visitors and integrating modern technologies into the museum business.

We invite all Poltava residents and guests to visit the most cosy museum in the city!
