On 29 June, Poltava celebrates the 851st anniversary of its first written mention. The city was first mentioned in the Ipatiev Chronicle in 1174, and this date became the starting point for the official chronicle of Poltava's age.
For more than eight centuries, the city has experienced many events, witnessed historical changes and at the same time was an active participant in the creation of Ukrainian statehood. Poltava has emerged as a significant cultural, educational, scientific and economic centre, preserving its unique atmosphere, architectural heritage and centuries-old tradition of hospitality.
Today, Poltava continues to develop, combining respect for the past with the desire for modernity. The celebration of the City Day is not only an occasion for celebration, but also an opportunity to think about the future: to preserve, support, develop and be proud of it.
We congratulate all Poltava residents and friends of the city on this memorable date!
