Lyceum students from Poltava Lyceum with enhanced military and physical training set off on a historical journey entitled "Knights of Ukraine: Cossacks - a phenomenon of national history" at Poltava Battlefield State Historical and Cultural Reserve was undertaken by students of the Poltava Lyceum with enhanced military and physical training named after Vitalii Hrytsaienko of the Poltava Regional Council to learn who the true Ukrainian knights are - Cossacks, defenders of their native land. They learned about the history of Cossack victories, combat traditions, weapons, and symbols of honour and courage. The ‘Cossack cuisine’ location was particularly interesting, where participants learned what the Cossacks took with them on their campaigns and what traditional dishes they prepared. The most delicious moment was the treat of Poltava dumplings and uzvar, which added a special flavour and homely comfort to this informative day. At the ‘Cossack Medicine’ location, guests learned about the peculiarities of treating Cossacks on campaigns, hospitals on the lands of the Hetmanate, the role played by monasteries and church communities in this, and how foreign travellers wrote about all this with enthusiasm. The museum guests were particularly interested in medicinal ointments, tinctures, and extracts made from medicinal raw materials according to traditional folk recipes.
The museum was also visited by a TSN film crew led by journalist Kostyantyn Hrubych, who was interested in the new thematic excursion and the institution's work in the field of national-patriotic education. Employees of thePoltava Battlefield State Historical and Cultural Reserve have developed and present themed tours and scientific and educational events aimed at promoting the history of Ukraine and the cultural heritage of the Poltava region.
