Poltava hosted a ceremony to sum up the results of the citywide campaign “Museum Selfie Day — 2026,” which annually brings together lovers of history, art, and modern forms of cultural leisure.
The winners and most active participants were awarded at the Poltava Art Museum (Art Gallery) named after Mykola Yaroshenko. The event was attended by First Deputy Mayor Valerii Parkhomenko, who congratulated the participants and thanked the museum staff for their creative promotion of cultural heritage.
Museum Selfie Day is traditionally celebrated on the third Wednesday of January. In 2026, this date fell on January 21. Poltava's municipal museums joined the international initiative for the tenth time. On this day, about 1,500 people visited Poltava's museums to take creative photos with artifacts.
Participants posted selfies from museum halls on social networks with thematic hashtags, demonstrating originality, emotions, and concern for the city's cultural heritage. Based on the results of the selection made by the museums of the basic network of cultural institutions of the Poltava city territorial community, the 15 best photos received awards.
The authors of these photos were awarded with incentive gifts, diplomas, and certificates from the event's partner, the Starkava veteran coffee shop. In addition, regular and most loyal museum visitors received certificates for free visits to museums throughout the year.The organizers expressed their sincere gratitude to the event partner, Starkava veteran café, as a socially responsible local business that actively supports cultural initiatives of the community and the development of veteran entrepreneurship.

The international Museum Selfie Day campaign was launched in 2014. Its initiator is British cultural expert and art historian Mar Dixon. The campaign aims to provide informational support and promote museums around the world through social media: visitors post selfies with exhibits using special hashtags.
