The State Historical and Cultural Reserve “Field of the Battle of Poltava” hosted an academic roundtable titled “The Transformation of Museum Space: Contemporary Challenges,” which brought together museum professionals, scholars, higher education faculty, and librarians from the Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, and Lviv regions.
Participants discussed the role of museums in shaping contemporary culture of remembrance, reinterpreting historical events, and overcoming imperial and Soviet historical narratives. Particular attention was paid to the transformation of museum exhibitions and new approaches to covering the events of the Great Northern War, the Battle of Poltava, and the figure of Hetman Ivan Mazepa.
The event also featured a presentation of the educational and methodological guide “Museology” by Larysa Shapoval, Ph.D. in History and associate professor in the Department of Ukrainian History at the Volodymyr Korolenko National Pedagogical University.
The roundtable served as a platform for professional exchange of experiences and discussion of the role of museums in preserving historical memory, cultural heritage, and the development of Ukraine’s contemporary museum landscape.
