Volodymyr Korolenko — a writer, humanist and human rights activist — always showed particular concern for children, looked after those in need of support, and championed human dignity and justice.

Today, the Volodymyr Korolenko Literary and Memorial Museum in Poltava continues these humanist traditions by developing an inclusive space open to everyone. A key part of this work has been the long-standing collaboration with the NGO "Poltava Down Syndrome".

Joint initiatives include creative and educational events, solo and group exhibitions of works by the organisation’s artists, as well as theatre projects involving the "Malafeia" amateur theatre group. The museum’s researchers, together with parents, have developed and delivered Poltava’s first guided tour based on the ‘Easy-to-Read’ principles, to make the museum’s information more accessible to visitors with diverse needs. The museum has also installed inclusive wayfinding signs.

In October, Down’s Syndrome Awareness Month, the museum invites you to visit Inna Ivashchenko’s photography exhibition "A Special Universe". This is an opportunity to see the world through the photographer’s lens, to experience the sincerity of human emotions, kindness and the beauty of individuality.

The Korolenko Museum is not only a place for preserving literary heritage, but also a space for mutual understanding, creativity and respect for every individual.

We invite you to discover "A Special Universe" at the V. Korolenko Literary and Memorial Museum in Poltava!
