The State Historical and Cultural Reserve "Field of the Battle of Poltava" celebrates its 40th anniversary! Memorialization of the place where the Battle of Poltava took place, which became a turning point in history, began more than three centuries ago. The first and for a long time the only monument of the future complex was the mass grave of soldiers of the Moscow army. By the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava, new monuments dedicated to the historical event appeared in the city. Gradually, the issue of creating a historical and cultural reserve gained more and more attention and over time was enshrined in the relevant regulations. Only on March 31, 1981 by Resolution № 153 of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine and the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR "On the proclamation of the complex of historical and cultural monuments of the Poltava Battlefield as the State Historical and Cultural Reserve". This document finally legally recorded the creation of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve "Field of the Battle of Poltava". In preparation for the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the battle, the complex of monuments was replenished with new objects. Today the complex includes 23 historical monuments, 4 - monumental art, 3 - architecture, 6 - archeology and 1 monument of science and technology. The territory of the reserve has a total area of 720 hectares, which is almost 900 fields of grass lawn NSC "Olympic" (Kyiv).
