Description

The Enlightenment People's House was built in 1922 and was intended for communication between   writers and scholars. According to the original plan, the premises were planned to hold a meeting in honor of the outstanding writer and humanist Volodymyr  Korolenko, who lived 21 years of his life in Poltava.

The People's House was designed by architect I. Langman. The architectural style of the house is eclectic - a mixture of forms of classicism and modernism. Attractive facade of the so-called "Gogol school", with elements of classical architecture of the beginning. XX century smoothly passes into the facade of the corner house, decorated with a four-column rotunda of the Doric order.

The Korolenko People's House Society was organized in Poltava in 1919 as a cultural and educational center of liberal-democratic orientation. There were about 200 members of the society.

Members of the People's House of V. Korolenko were unlucky with the building. Even before the completion of finishing works, a seven-year labor school №10 was located here. The history of the school began in 1920, when a seven-year 10th labor school was opened in the premises of the Peasant Bank destroyed by the civil war. In 1946 the school was named after V. Кorolenko.

There are many names that Poltava and Ukraine are proud of in the school chronicle. Graduates of the school in different years were: designer of aviation and space technology Volodymyr Chelomei, inventor of satellite communications Mark Kryvosheev, People's Artist of Ukraine Ada Rogovtseva, Honored Artist of Ukraine Volodymyr Pavliuchenko and many others.

The Korolenko People's House Society existed until 1941.

During the Nazi occupation, the youth underground in the city - the group "Unconquered Poltavchanka" was led by a graduate of the 10th school Lialia Ubyivovk.

Opposite the school is a monument to the "Unconquered Poltava residents", also there is a street named after Lialia Ubyivovk in Poltava.
