The Savior Church of the Poltava region was once a small allotment of the Savior and Transfiguration Church, which was located on the territory of the Holy Cross Monastery. In 1706, he was transferred to the regimental Poltava, in the district of the administrative part of the city. According to legend, it was in the Spassky Temple where all the famous Poltava colonels took the oath of loyalty to the interests of the townspeople. Over time, the wooden church, built of oak beams, began to crumble. In order to preserve the church, a charity subscription was announced - collection of funds for carrying out repair and restoration works. In addition, the task was set to invent such a way of preserving the monument in order to convey it forever.
Over the course of several years, 25,000 rubles in silver were collected. The project for the preservation of the church was carried out by the architect L. Ton in 1845, since then and to this day its stone copy rises above the wooden church. The height of the church is 13.5 m, the length is 21 m. Between the outer stone church and the inner wooden one there is a wall, the width of which, depending on the part of the church, reaches from fifty centimeters to a meter. In the middle of the 19th century, the iconostasis, made at the beginning of the 18th century, was renewed.
