A monument to Ukrainian Cossacks was erected in Poltava in 1994. The authors of this project were sculptor V. Bilous and artist V. Baturyn. It was installed on Panyansky Boulevard, where in the 18th century stood the watchtower of the fortifications of the fortress of Poltava. Its opening was timed to the feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin, which is considered the heavenly patron saint of the Cossacks and their army.
An interesting inscription "Installed on the day of the Intercession of the Mother of God in 1983" is carved on one of the stones of the pedestal.
