The third church of Holy Cross Exaltation Monastery - Symeonivska Church was built in 1887. It was built by own expense of rich merchant and philanthropist Inokentii Kotelnykov in memory of his only son Symeon who died in Poltava. In 1886 parents were taken hopelessly ill son for treatment in Crimea and on the way stopped in Poltava Holy Cross Exaltation Monastery. Symeon so like the monastery and its beautiful suburbs that he wanted to be buried here if he dies. It soon came to pass and parents doing the last will of their son and forever remain in Poltava. After the death of his son, father stayed in Poltava and became one of the patrons of the monastery complex. At the beginning of XIXth century he was proclaimed an honorary citizen of the city.
Symeon's church was built especially for the fraternal meal, so in the western part of it was arranged a bakery, kitchen and cell for the monk who was in charge of the meal. Dimensions of the temple: length over 28 m, width - 10.5 m.
