Vavilov Mykola Ivanovych - geneticist, who is considered the founder of modern scientific selection, plant grower, geographer, academician.
He began his scientific work in 1910 in Poltava as a student intern at the Moscow Agricultural Institute on the basis of the Poltava Agricultural Research Station.
After graduating from the institute (1912) he studied the stability of some varieties of wheat in Poltava and collected a herbarium of cereals. Work in Poltava allowed the scientist to develop further. So over time, in 1930-1940 Vavilov headed the All-Union Institute of Plant Breeding and the All-Union Institute of Genetics.
In Poltava in honor of M.Vavylov named the avenue, a memorial plaque was installed.
