The Alley of the Fallen Defenders is being implemented as part of the Poltava Remembers Heroes project to honour and preserve the memory of the heroism of the Defenders of Ukraine, who come from the Poltava City Territorial Community and died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine since 2014, paying tribute to the Poltava City Territorial Community, honouring the feat of other patriots of Ukraine, honouring the courage, heroism and selflessness of the soldiers who gave their lives in fulfilment of their civic duty to protect their country. There are 180 steles with 360 portraits.

The Alley of Memory is located on the territory of the Chestnut Alley botanical nature monument, which covers an area of 4 hectares.
